How to Support Families After Missouri’s SNAP Benefit Delay
What Is Happening
The Missouri Department of Social Services (MDSS) announced that November 2025 SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, formerly known as food stamps, were initially halted due to the federal government shutdown. As of November 8, MDSS began issuing partial benefits for the month. For households already balancing tight budgets, missing all or part of benefits can create added stress and uncertainty around when they’ll have their next meal. More than 650,000 Missourians depend on SNAP to feed their families and cover basic nutritional needs, reports KMBC 9 News.
Why This Sudden Change
Because SNAP is 100% federally funded, the shutdown initially prevented Missouri from accessing the funds, according to the MDSS FAQ. The state has now begun issuing partial benefits, though families may still face gaps in assistance.
