FAQ

We believe in a truly different way of looking at wealth. See how we can help you find your purpose.
  • What is a Financial Advisor?

At TrueNorth, our financial advisors aim to serve as guides for your financial future. But if you’d like to get technical, here’s what we do.

An investment adviser is a firm or person that, for compensation, engages in the business of providing investment advice to others about the value of or about investing in securities – stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange traded funds (ETFs), and certain other investment products and/or in issuing reports or analyses regarding securities, as part of a regular business.

Advisers typically provide ongoing advice about buying, selling and/or holding investments and will monitor the performance of your investments and their alignment with your overall investment objectives. The fee that you pay for this advice is typically based on the value of all of the assets held in your account with the adviser. You may have other costs related to servicing your account and the investments that you buy, sell or hold. Advisers also may give advice about market trends or asset allocation or offer financial planning services.

  • Are You a Fiduciary?

Yes. By adhering to this title, we abide by the definition of fiduciaries, which means we are legally required to put the clients’ interests ahead of our own. We have a duty to act in the best financial interests of you and are held to the highest standards of conduct. And we proudly hold ourselves to that standard.

  • How Do You Get Paid?

For investment and wealth management services, the better you do, the better we do. From a financial standpoint, yes, we do have an incentive to help you grow your wealth. We charge fees based on a percentage of assets under management and we assess those quarterly. We can speak to specifics in-person as our fees vary according to various factors and services. We also offer financial planning and consulting services on an hourly or flat rate fee. Please see our ADV and Form CRS links at the bottom of this page for more information.

  • Who is Your Custodian?

Though TrueNorth recommends brokers with which we have negotiated pricing on behalf of our clients, we do not have discretionary authority to select brokers. We endeavor to recommend broker-dealers that will provide the best services at the lowest commission rates possible. If you'd like to discuss our process further or our choice of broker-dealer, please reach out and we'd be happy to continue the conversation.

  • What Are Your Qualifications?

Bryan and Troy have over 45 combined years of experience in the financial services industry, both having worked as national bank examiners for the U.S. Treasury Department. They’re both CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals (CFP®), meaning they adhere to a professional Code of Ethics and fulfill annual continuing education requirements. Bryan has consistently been recognized and ranked as Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisors (2018-2023)*

*The Forbes ranking of Best-In-State Wealth Advisors, developed by SHOOK Research, was awarded to BRYAN VOWELS in APRIL for the period of 1/1/2017 – 12/31/2022. Being a Forbes Best-In-State Wealth Advisor does not mean BRYAN VOWELS is ranked the top advisor in the state. The ranking includes many advisors in the state that have been awarded the “best-in-state” distinction. The ranking is based on an algorithm of qualitative criteria, mostly gained through telephone and in-person due diligence interviews, and quantitative data. Those advisors that are considered have a minimum of seven years of experience for Best-In-State Wealth Advisors. The algorithm weighs factors like revenue trends, assets under management, compliance records, industry experience and those that encompass best practices in their practices and approach to working with clients. Portfolio performance is not a criteria due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data. Rankings are based on the opinions of SHOOK Research, LLC and are not indicative of future performance or representative of any one client’s experience; the firm’s research and rankings provide opinions for how to choose the right financial advisor. Investors must carefully choose the right advisor for their own situation and perform their own due diligence. Ratings should not be considered an endorsement of the adviser by any client. Neither Forbes nor SHOOK are a client of TRUENORTH WEALTH & IMPACT, nor do they receive a fee in exchange for rankings. Once placed on a ranking, advisors may choose to pay fees to Forbes and Shook for premium listing features on Forbes directory of top advisors, use of the ranking logo or reprint of the ranking. Additional information on the ranking methodology can be found at forbes.com and SHOOKresearch.com.

  • How Will Our Relationship Work?

You’ll continue to hear from us and we’ll want to continue hearing from you. For a full description of our process, visit our Services page at findtruenorth.com.

  • What Asset Allocation Will You Use?

Asset allocation can mean something different for every person we work with. How we choose this will be determined by the level of risk you’re comfortable with, your age and your current financial situation.
